Red Vanilla…

Posted on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 in Cycling

Greetings Readers,

Someone close to me was perusing the blog and commented on it. “It’s like your talking to an audience that doesn’t know anything about cycling” Hmmm. Interesting. My mind then ponders how do I come across in text?

Truth be told, the blog is about me. Cycling, Cross, and mind dumps about training and the ups and downs of the season. It’s about my love of the sport from an average, middle of the pack point of view. Add in all the other stuff too. It’s my ideas, opinions, experiences, trials, disappointments, and achievements. Some of you will “get it” some won’t. Those that don’t will stop reading, no worries. Lots of choices out there and surely better, more entertaining blogs than mine. Just check out the blog roll for that.

My purpose of this blog is not about the “hit counter”. It’s my outlet for cycling. I get to share my enthusiasm with who ever chooses to read it.

Guys/Gals who are serious cyclists aren’t reading this blog, I’ve nothing to share and or contribute to them that they already don’t know, or have already experienced.

Beginners and novice racers will relate to it more, or those thinking about taking up the sport of cycling. It’s a great sport, be careful, it will get a hold of you and not let go. We who participate are a privileged lot.

I was riding in to work this morning, thinking to myself: Self, how lucky I am to have this great sport in my life. How absolutely liberating it is, not to have to depend on a motor vehicle to get back and forth to work. It’s gotten to the point where I now feel guilty for driving my car to work, needlessly creating hydrocarbons that pollute mother earth. When it is so easy, to just hop on the bike and cruise in. Granted I’m no extremist, I still drive in once a week or so because I need to run some errands that I can’t do on a bike, or because I need a day off of the bike to recover. So don’t get me wrong, I’m not preaching abstinence from your auto. I would however encourage any who read this to give commuting a try; start out with just one day a week. Ride your bike to work. See how it goes? The more you do, the easier it becomes. Old hat and all that. It’s funny; a few years ago the thought of commuting by bike seemed like this overwhelming, insurmountable task. Please, it’s a piece of cake.

I found this absolutely Stunning Vanilla over on the Serotta forum. I love the Zero Gravity brakes on a steel crown fork, outstanding! The Vanilla raised script is pure classy. Beautiful bike to say the least!
