Runup Intervals

Posted on Sunday, February 24, 2008 in Training

Ok, so I didn’t get a ride in today. I just didn’t have a block of time to do so. But I did have an hour.

By my house is a pond, and a set of stairs, and a little dirt singletrack that makes a really short loop.  About 3 mins a lap, just enough to barely get your breath between assualts on those stairs. I’d hit them just like a cross race, dismount, shoulder the bike and try to explode up the stairs. Then remount at the top. Those stairs are 3 flights, 12 steps on the bottom, 11 in the middle, and 15 at the top. (I thought that last flight seemed long!) There was about a 3 step flat section inbetween the flights, a guy with longer legs could have done it in two. I hit those stairs with my bike on my back 21 times! What a workout. I’d get to the top, remount, cover the parking lot, descend this little singletrack and then hit the stairs again.

There was a lot of people around and I guess cross just isn’t well known to the masses. What? You never seen a cross race before? I would catch people stopping and staring at me running the stairs with my bike. I can just imagine what was going thru there heads? :)

The easy part……. going down..

The girl @ the top thought I was crazy, but she’s obviously never been to a cross race!

BTW, My remounts need a lot of work, but its early in the year and I hope to be nailing them, smooth and graceful like, by September.

Cheers!
